Rhapsody in Black

Rhapsody in Black

Upcycled bottleglass; coldworking, fusing
183 x 49 x 16 cm

Shaped through accumulation, the work holds material and memory like notes in a score – layered one upon another, alternately concealing and revealing. Forms absorb into themselves, merge into a whole, and become new ground – dense with the past, yet open to new interpretations.

Like a rhapsody, the work resists boundaries and moves freely across emotional registers, carrying within it both dissonance and harmony.

A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality. An air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation make it freer in form than a set of variations. (wikipedia)
