Size of earth: 1795 x 715 x 85 mm

All the earth is bound to the weather,
and the weather depends on the land.

The soil has been worked and turned —
ploughed, sown, and shaped.

Hope rests in the sun, the wind, the snow, and the rain.
Drop by drop, a cloud of knowledge gathers.
There is so much to learn, so much to cherish.

The way we treat our land — everything we do, or leave undone — affects the climate and changes the weather. In turn, the weather influences the state of the earth: it dries, brings rain, and can also create extreme conditions.

On the surface, the nature of weather may seem simple, yet in its essence and inner mechanisms it is profoundly complex. The artwork seeks to express this very relationship.

The piece consists of two shapes. The lower, rectangular form represents the earth — the soil, the solid and grounded element of our environment. The upper, free-form shape refers both literally to a cloud and symbolically to all that is dynamic and airy in our surroundings. It also alludes to the virtual “clouds” where data and knowledge are constantly shifting and accumulating.
